Ice Fernz v Australia 2016
We had another loss today against Australia but we have definitely picked up our game since the first two. I'm super proud to be playing along side these girls. Here's a quick clip of our goal. Our focus now turns to Turkey on Saturday! A huge thanks to all of our fans and supporters :)☝ #icefernz #kiwipridePosted by Anjali Thakker on Thursday, 3 March 2016
Australia was always going to be a special game for me because I have played with and against most of the girls in the Australian team last season when I was playing in Melbourne. Australia being the other favourites to win the tournament, we also knew that this was going to be a very tough game and a tough game it was. We started well and went into the first break at a 2-0 disadvantage so we felt we were holding our own and well in the game. We kept pushing in the second, which yielded good results early in the period. Scoring that goal was amazing, you can see it above, and we felt we were playing well. Now, unfortunately for us, it was also the turning point when Australia found another gear and pushed ahead relentlessly. We skated as hard as we could, but ended up losing the game 12-1. Tough day at the office.
Tomorrow is another rest day and then the make or break game for us in the tournament. We are skating against Turkey in a must-win game. Despite the results not going our way so far in the tournament, we have grown as a team and we are going for the win against Turkey!
